1. "The Python in the Garden", by Philip Evans, May 4, 2007

The second generation of the commercial Internet is about more than social networking for teens. Web 2.0, as it is commonly called, has the potential to strengthen competitive advantage while lowering costs, up-end entire industries, and even redefine some of the traditional rules of strategy. This Perspective defines the key principles of Web 2.0 and describes their implications for supply chain, enterprise collaboration, and the mobile telephony industry. It argues that incumbents are well positioned, but only if they act.

2. "The Kindness of Strangers", by Philip Evans, October 26, 2006

The technologies and business practices collectively referred to as "Web 2.0" have the potential to up-end established industriesβ€”and rewrite some of the traditional rules of strategy. This Perspective describes two themes central to the Web 2.0 phenomenon. The "empowerment of the periphery" enables the creation of vibrant communities. While "loose modularity" characterizes the rapid and low-cost way the Web applications are built. Traditional firms need to understand the potential threats and opportunities posed by these surprisingly lightweight business models.
